Ballina is situated at the mouth of the beautiful Richmond River, approximately 30 minutes drive south of Byron Bay. Ballina has traditionally been seen as Byron Bay’s poor cousin, catering for family’s requiring a low cost holiday alternative. Ballina has many caravan parks and reasonably priced motels. In recent times Ballina has undergone a transformation. Development of the township’s River-front and shopping precincts, combined with the arrival of boutique accommodation has seen a resurgence in popularity for the town.

Swimming, fishing or surfing at one of the many unspoilt beaches within walking distance of the town centre. Hire a BBQ deck boat and cook a BBQ while cruising the Richmond River. Pay a visit to Ballina’s maritime museum and see the Las Balsas raft – A 46 feet long Balsa wood raft that made the journey from Ecuador, across the Pacific to Ballina, in 178 days. Hire a bike and ride the cycleway to the East Ballina lookout – stopping on the way for lunch at Shelly Beach or Shaw’s Bay. Catch the ferry to South Ballina and try surf fishing at South Ballina Beach.
